Position Overview

This role is situated within the U.S. Department of the Interior, specifically in the Project Management Division.

Summary

  • This is a term position expected to last for over a year, with an initial appointment of at least 13 months, potentially extendable up to a decade.
  • Term positions do not provide permanent status within the Federal service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a Project Manager within the National Park Service (NPS).
  • Assist the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in overseeing projects related to the management, upkeep, renovation, and construction of NPS facilities, which encompass buildings, utilities, trails, roads, and other physical assets.
  • Function as a representative of the contracting officer during project execution.
  • Offer general program support to the Project Management Division and other divisions within the park as required.
  • Prepare and administer Investment Review Board documentation.

Employment Conditions

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
  • Appointment is contingent upon a background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Compliance with the Selective Service Registration Act is required for male applicants.
  • Participation in the Direct Deposit Electronic Funds Transfer Program is necessary.
  • A one-year trial period is mandatory.

Qualifications

Applicants must fulfill all qualifications and eligibility criteria by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education as outlined below.

Basic Requirements:

  • Degree: A degree in Engineering is required. Acceptable programs must either lead to a bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited school or include advanced coursework in five of the following seven areas: statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical fields and circuits, and properties of materials.
  • OR
  • Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that provides a solid foundation in the physical and mathematical sciences related to engineering.

Additional Requirements:

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service, which includes managing engineering projects through all phases of design, construction, and facility start-up.
  • A current Professional Engineer License in Civil/General Engineering is required.

Volunteer Experience: Experience gained through paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service, will be credited.

Education: To qualify based on education, applicants must submit a legible copy of their transcripts.
