We are seeking a skilled Painter to join our team at Chartway Arena, a 9,100-seat multi-purpose arena located on the campus of Old Dominion University. As a Painter, you will work closely with the Director of Parking and Venue Maintenance to ensure the arena's interior and exterior surfaces are properly painted and maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply paint to surfaces, including walls, floors, doors, and cabinets, to ensure a high-quality finish.
- Scrape, sandpaper, prime, or seal surfaces prior to painting to prepare them for the paint application.
- Clean walls to ensure proper paint adhesion and a smooth finish.
- Cover surfaces with cloth or plastic to protect them from paint splatters and spills.
- Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives, to ensure a seamless finish.
- Use ladders, lifts, and scaffolding to reach high areas of the arena, ensuring safety and efficiency.
- Remove fixtures, such as pictures, doorknobs, and electric switch covers, prior to painting to prevent damage.
- Apply multiple coats of paint according to the manufacturer's instructions to achieve the desired finish.
- Apply touch-ups or second coats as needed to ensure a flawless finish.
- Remove paint splatters and clean up all equipment and work sites when completed.
- Facilitate in other areas of facility operations as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a team-oriented approach.
- Work extended and/or irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the needs of the arena.
- Maintain a professional work ethic, providing excellent customer service and a positive attitude.
- Collaborate with supervisors and fellow employees to achieve common goals and maintain a safe working environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating adaptability and a commitment to excellence.
Requirements
- Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedules, producing accurate results and meeting deadlines.
- Must be able to use a paintbrush and paint roller with precision and skill.
- Must have a basic knowledge of sheetrock repair and be able to apply it in a practical setting.
- Demonstrate knowledge of practices and procedures related to facility maintenance and the proper use and care of equipment.
- Work independently, exercising judgment and initiative to achieve results.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others.
- Model all safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment and maintain a cooperative, team-like attitude.
- Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur, demonstrating a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence.
- High school diploma or GED is required, with a minimum of six (6) months related experience preferred.
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time (8 hours or more) and work on ladders to reach high ceilings or walls.
- Position is routinely required to work outdoors and is exposed to the elements (heat, rain, etc.).
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
