Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Child Life Specialist to join our team at UVA Health. As a key member of our Child Life Team, you will play a vital role in providing emotional support and comfort to pediatric patients and their families during their hospital stay.

Key Responsibilities
  • Procedural Preparation and Support: Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized plans to prepare children for medical procedures, reducing anxiety and stress.
  • Therapeutic Play: Design and implement play-based interventions to promote coping skills, socialization, and emotional regulation in pediatric patients.
  • Education and Support: Provide education and support to patients and families on various aspects of their healthcare experience, including illness, treatment, and hospitalization.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement programming and events that promote family-centered care and support.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Child Life or a related field, with a minimum of 480 hours of Child Life internship experience.
  • Licensure: Child Life Professional Certification within one year of hire, and American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand for prolonged periods, frequently bend/stoop, and lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
