Job Title: Head Start Assistant Teacher/Driver

Join the Siletz Tribal Gaming Comm team as a Head Start Assistant Teacher/Driver and contribute to the development of young minds in our community.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to assist in the implementation of a developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant preschool program. As a Head Start Assistant Teacher/Driver, you will be responsible for providing a safe and efficient transportation service to 20 children, while also assisting with planning and execution of daily activities, setting up and maintaining a developmentally appropriate classroom environment, and supporting the Head Start goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and execution of daily activities, including educational and social service-related home visits
  • Provide safe and efficient transportation services to 20 children
  • Set up and maintain a developmentally appropriate classroom environment, including organization of space and material storage
  • Support the Head Start goals and objectives, including developing and driving a bus route and implementing daily bus routes and transportation for program-related activities
  • Ensure the bus is in operation in a safe and efficient manner, and complete necessary upkeep, maintenance, and safety checks
  • Responsible for behavior of children on the bus, and keep assigned vehicle clean
  • Report any accidents or malfunctions to the Head Start Manager, and record gas slips and in-kind services
Requirements
  • Associates or bachelor's degree (any field) - OR - High School Diploma or GED and six months experience in a structured early childhood education setting
  • Must obtain Child Development Associate (CDA) credential within 2 years of hire date
  • Must obtain valid Oregon School Bus Drivers Certificate and Oregon Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with the proper endorsements - OR - CDL Permit and be able to obtain a valid Oregon Commercial Drivers License (within 90-days of employment) with the proper endorsements
  • Must pass a criminal history background check, including a sex offender registry check, and obtain a state or tribal criminal history records check, and a child abuse and neglect state registry check
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Positive methods of child guidance, including redirection, consistency, and prevention
  • Developmentally appropriate practices for early childhood
  • Basic understanding of child development
  • Ability to work effectively with low-income families, use a positive approach in directing child behavior, and be comfortable working with children and families from a variety of social, ethnic, economic, and cultural backgrounds
Other Requirements
  • Obtain Food Handler's card within 15-days of hire
  • Obtain First Aid/CPR within first 30-days of hire
  • Screened for tuberculosis
  • Tolerant and sensitive when working with children and families

Salary: $20.45/hour
