Job Summary

The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) plays a vital role in providing speech and language services to patients of all ages in various settings. Working under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), the SLPA assists with clinical, educational, and documentation activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides components of a speech and language program as specified in the treatment plan developed by a supervising SLP in accordance with the physician's plan of care.
  • Assists the SLP with speech, language, and hearing screenings without clinical interpretation.
  • Assists the SLP during assessment of students, clients, and patients, exclusive of administration and/or interpretation.
  • Provides timely and accurate documentation of student, client, and patient performance and reports this information to the supervising SLP.
  • Programs and provides instruction in the use of augmentative and alternative communication devices.
  • Demonstrates or shares information with patients, families, caregivers, and staff regarding feeding strategies developed and directed by the SLP, as State Practice Acts permit.
  • May adapt educational materials and equipment for the purpose of providing intervention and/or meeting the individual patient, client, student needs.
  • May assist with clerical duties, such as preparing materials and scheduling activities, as directed by the SLP.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment used in the field in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines.
  • Reports reaction(s) to treatment or change(s) in condition of the patient, client, and student to the supervising SLP and alternate clinical designee as indicated.
Requirements
  • Current certification or licensure as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant in the State of Practice.
  • One (1) year of prior professional Speech-Language Pathology Assistant experience preferred.
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR if applicable.
  • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
