Overview

We are seeking:

CNS Healthcare, a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic, is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of individuals in our communities. The Youth Psychiatric Specialist is an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, responsible for conducting psychiatric assessments, providing management services, coordinating care, and offering consultations and medication management for children and adolescents facing various mental and behavioral health challenges. This role may also involve supporting young adults in transition.

Important Note: While this position is mainly office-based, there may be opportunities for some remote work flexibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct clinical services by performing psychiatric evaluations, care coordination, assessments, consultations, and medication management for children and adolescents, including occasional young adults.
  • Diagnose and assess according to the latest Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders.
  • Collaborate with caregivers, parents, guardians, and other professionals to coordinate care and develop tailored treatment recommendations.
  • Facilitate integrated care with both internal and external providers addressing mental health, physical health, and substance use disorders.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests as clinically necessary.
  • Prescribe psychotropic medications, including controlled substances, and monitor patient compliance and medication effects.
  • Advocate for increased prescriptions for Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for substance use disorders when clinically indicated.
  • Educate patients on chronic health conditions, healthy lifestyle choices, and medication management, including associated risks and benefits.
  • Participate in case reviews and contribute to the development of psychiatric programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide guidance to internal staff regarding children and adolescent programming and quality metrics.
  • Engage in publication opportunities and contribute to the field.
  • Testify in judicial proceedings as necessary.
  • Participate in on-call rotations as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic environment by adhering to infection control and waste disposal protocols.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing techniques and a trauma-informed approach in service delivery.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and in compliance with CNS standards.
  • Meet productivity and documentation standards as per agency expectations.
  • Ensure compliance with quality care initiatives and regulatory requirements.
  • Uphold CNS Healthcare standards in all interactions with individuals served and staff.
  • Pursue professional development through ongoing education and training.
  • Adhere to established policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a residency in Psychiatry and a fellowship in Child/Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Must obtain or maintain Child Mental Health Professional (CMHP) credential within 90 days of employment.
  • Active board certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • Current, unrestricted Michigan medical license.
  • Valid Michigan controlled substance license.
  • DEA registration for controlled substances.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Prior clinical experience in managing crises and behavioral techniques for youth.
  • Knowledge of interventions for psychiatric and developmental disorders.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations in healthcare settings.
  • Proficient in using electronic health records and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment.
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License and reliable transportation.

Preferred:

  • At least one year of experience in a clinical setting with children and adolescents.
  • Additional board certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Familiarity with community mental health systems.
