Role Summary

What We Seek:

As a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic, CNS Healthcare is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of individuals in our communities. The Youth Psychiatric Specialist plays a crucial role within a collaborative team, conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments, managing care, coordinating services, and providing ongoing support for children and adolescents facing diverse mental and behavioral health challenges. This role may also involve occasional care for young adults in transition.

Note: This position is primarily based in an office setting, but there may be opportunities for some remote work flexibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct clinical services through psychiatric evaluations, care coordination, assessments, consultations, and medication management for children and adolescents, including occasional young adults.
  • Diagnose and assess mental health conditions based on the latest Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders.
  • Collaborate with caregivers, parents, guardians, and other professionals to ensure coordinated care and tailored treatment recommendations.
  • Facilitate integrated care with both internal and external providers addressing mental health, physical health, and substance use disorders.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests as clinically indicated.
  • Prescribe psychotropic medications, including controlled substances, and monitor patient adherence and response to treatment.
  • Encourage the use of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for substance use disorders when clinically appropriate.
  • Educate patients on chronic health issues, healthy lifestyle choices, and medication management, including potential risks and benefits.
  • Participate in case reviews and contribute to the development of psychiatric programs, policies, and best practices.
  • Engage in publication opportunities and testify in legal proceedings as necessary.
  • Participate in on-call rotations as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety protocols, including infection control and waste disposal.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing techniques and a trauma-informed approach in service delivery.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Meet productivity and documentation expectations set by the agency.
  • Maintain compliance with quality care initiatives and regulatory requirements.
  • Foster positive interactions with individuals served, guests, and colleagues.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development through education and training.
  • Adhere to established policies, corporate compliance, and ethical standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a residency in Psychiatry and a fellowship in Child/Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Must obtain or maintain Child Mental Health Professional (CMHP) credential within 90 days of employment.
  • Active board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • Current, unrestricted Michigan medical license.
  • Valid Michigan controlled substance license.
  • DEA registration for controlled substances.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in managing crises and behavioral issues in children and adolescents.
  • Knowledge of interventions for psychiatric and developmental disorders.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations in healthcare settings.
  • Proficient in electronic health records and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License and reliable transportation.

Preferred:

  • At least one year of experience as a licensed psychiatrist in relevant clinical settings.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and families.
  • Completion of a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship.
  • Additional board certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Familiarity with community mental health systems.
