INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:

The Prevention Specialist Intern will support experienced Prevention Specialists in planning, coordinating, and delivering group interventions and prevention services to at-risk youth aged 7-17. This role emphasizes preventing and addressing issues related to homelessness, at-risk behaviors, and youth at risk of entering the juvenile justice system.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist staff in organizing and implementing various activities for youth, including group counseling, academic support, mentoring, career development, recreational and cultural activities, community service, arts and crafts, and guest presentations.
  • Learn to maintain accurate records and progress notes regarding clients.
  • Support the management of case files, including intake forms, assessment data, client release forms, and attendance records.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality regarding client information.
  • Collaborate with staff to create individualized case plans for assigned clients.
  • Ensure compliance with standards set by the Department of Community Justice and Matrix PQI.
  • Participate in staff meetings and other necessary meetings during internship hours.
  • Assist in goal-setting and case management services for youth.
  • Help facilitate academic activities, including homework assistance.
  • Provide direct academic support to designated students.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Currently enrolled in the final year of a bachelor's degree program in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or sociology.
  • Flexible availability for work hours.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Willingness to travel to local schools and community events.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using search engines and databases for case notes and research.
  • Ability to take initiative and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of prioritizing tasks.
  • Open to interacting with employees at all levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Capable of navigating stairs and uneven terrain at various locations.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
