About the Position

The Department of Defense is seeking a highly skilled Advanced Practice Nurse to join our team. As an Advanced Practice Nurse, you will be responsible for performing medical examinations and documenting medical history and findings to determine suitability for service in the Armed Forces.

Responsibilities
  • Perform applicant physical examinations in accordance with agency standards and assist with applicant medical processing at a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).
  • Ensure the confidentiality of applicants is respected and that professionalism is maintained at all times in the medical department.
  • Perform applicant medical prescreening as directed by the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Conduct complete face-to-face medical histories on applicants who have completed the prescreen process and have been authorized to process.
  • Complete all computer and non-computer based medical documentation in accordance with the Command's software packages and policies.
  • Verify problems or conditions alleged by the examinees and recommend to Command physicians if a more detailed physical exam of problem areas is required.
  • Prepare electronic and non-electronic documentation used to assess the applicant's mental and physical fitness for service in the military.
  • Perform physical inspections of previously qualified applicants to document their status for meeting standards at the time of actual enlistment on active duty and at any other time as required.
  • Perform a variety of professional direct health care duties within the field of general medicine.
Requirements
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Possess and maintain a current, active, valid, and unrestricted license as a registered nurse and APRN or APRN as required by the state issuing the license.
  • Possess and maintain a National Board Certification as a Family, Adult, Adult-Gero, Adult-Gero Acute Care or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
  • Possess and maintain current certifications/licensure in a state, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • May be required to work on Saturdays and/or shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period.
  • May require up to 25% temporary duty travel to other MEPS to cover staffing shortages.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • Credentialing will be required.
  • Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.
  • Public Law 101-647, Section 321 and Public Law 102-190, Section 1094 require the successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check to maintain the position for which hired.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Written Inquiries (NACI).
  • Must be able to pass a color perception (vision) examination.
  • Pre-Employment physical is required.
Qualifications

This is an open continuous announcement, meaning that several vacancies may be filled throughout the announcement period. As applicants apply, a pool of candidates is generated. Once a vacancy occurs, candidates will be reviewed for qualifications and referred to the hiring manager for consideration.

The first cutoff date is April 27th, 2024. Additional cutoffs will occur as vacancies are identified, upon request of management or until position(s) are filled.

This is a Term position scheduled to last two (2) years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of eight (8) years depending upon the needs of management.

Current Federal Employees who accept a TERM appointment will be separated at the end of the TERM appointment date if the Not-to-Exceed (NTE) date is not extended. There are no return/reemployment rights to the position vacated prior to accepting the TERM appointment.
