Job Overview

The Center for Justice Innovation is seeking a dedicated Youth Engagement Specialist to support our youth justice initiatives in Staten Island. This role will focus on developing and overseeing mentorship programming activities, including group workshops and individual mentorship sessions, to help youth ages 13 to 18 address individual and societal factors impacting their behavior.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain one-on-one relationships with mentees and their families, including scheduling and facilitating individual mentorship meetings and family events.
  • Design and implement group programming, such as community engagement projects, group outings, and workshops on positive youth development and skill-building.
  • Conduct accurate and adequate case planning for mentees, including scheduling and participating in meetings related to their well-being.
  • Monitor youth compliance and maintain consistent communication with family and criminal court stakeholders.
  • Provide 24/7 crisis management services as part of a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Utilize online databases to track participant activities and outcomes.
  • Support other SIJC youth programming as needed.
  • Participate in SIJC all-staff meetings, committees, and staff development activities.

Requirements:

  • A high school diploma with 2-5 years of experience working with youth from marginalized communities and/or youth who have been involved in the juvenile or criminal system.
  • Strong knowledge of community resources in the North Shore of Staten Island is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and provide crisis management as needed.

  • Flexible schedule including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • Compensation range: $52,000 - $58,200.
