Position: Environmental Health and Safety Manager

Your Role in the Organization

This position is integral to the senior management team at the facility, tasked with spearheading a holistic safety and wellness initiative through a proactive methodology. The focus is on cultivating a Safety Culture where the safety and well-being of associates is the utmost priority. This dynamic leader will interact with team members daily, promote safety messaging, and facilitate stretching exercises during shift meetings, while collaborating across departments to ensure effective safety training and compliance.

Reporting Relationships: This position reports directly to the Plant Site Director and the Director of Safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a supportive safety culture centered on people.
  • Oversee processes essential for maintaining a safe working environment at all times.
  • Guide the facility to achieve or surpass established corporate safety objectives aligned with operational needs.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, staying updated on evolving requirements and managing audits or inspections.
  • Implement programs and training to acknowledge, reward, and encourage safe practices throughout the facility.
  • Promote accountability among leaders to exemplify safe behaviors.
  • Address unsafe actions and conditions within the workplace.
  • Collaborate with the Site Director, HR, and Workers' Compensation experts on matters related to injuries, leaves, and accommodations.
  • Maintain a strong sense of urgency in communication and a proactive stance on issues.
  • Stay informed on trends and best practices within the industry and the Safety Community.
  • Ensure all data, compliance records, training, and reporting are accurate and complete, using insights to identify and address trends or opportunities.
  • Build high-performing teams and nurture top talent.
  • Manage financial controls and budgeting related to safety initiatives.
  • Provide coaching and leadership to others.
  • Adopt a caring and positive approach to influence and motivate colleagues.
  • Utilize a holistic systems perspective.
  • Oversee projects and processes effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Operations, Engineering, Business, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety is required.
  • Proven experience in influencing and training large manufacturing teams to foster a safe work environment and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Ability to lead with a servant leadership style that aligns with the company culture.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout procedures, Machine Guarding, and other relevant requirements.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules as needed.
  • Experience in liaising with regulatory agencies.
  • Strong priority-setting skills to effectively direct team activities.
  • Ability to influence others and work collaboratively without formal authority.
  • Strategic thinking to navigate complex issues and develop sustainable solutions.
  • High energy and action-oriented mindset focused on safety, health, and environmental goals.
  • Approachable demeanor to establish credibility.
  • Results-driven approach utilizing collaborative relationships throughout the organization.
