Job Title: Principal Gifts Officer

Join the Salk Institute for Biological Studies as a Principal Gifts Officer and play a critical role in advancing the mission of scientific discovery. As a member of the External Relations team, you will be responsible for identifying and closing major gifts to support the Institute's research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manage a portfolio of principal gift prospects and donors, conducting thorough research to understand their interests, giving capacity, and philanthropic history.
  2. Develop individualized donor profiles and strategies for cultivation and stewardship, ensuring effective communication of the impact and outcomes of principal gifts.
  3. Collaborate with the fundraising team and other External Relations departments to identify and steward major gift prospects and donors.
  4. Establish positive and strategic working relationships with faculty members, demonstrating a deep understanding of their research initiatives and needs.
  5. Participate in planning and implementing effective fund-raising strategies that align with the Institute's mission and goals.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of eight to ten years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a focus on major or principal gifts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with donors, faculty, and colleagues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data and develop effective strategies.
What We Offer:

The Salk Institute provides a competitive salary range of $120,000 to $155,000 per annum, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, paid time off, and tuition reimbursement.
