SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Culinary Specialist will foster a secure and encouraging environment that promotes the comprehensive growth of each student and staff member through cultural, social, spiritual, physical, and academic experiences. This role supports the Bureau of Indian Education's mission to deliver high-quality educational opportunities while considering the cultural and economic needs of the tribes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and oversee the preparation of diverse food items for breakfast and lunch menus.
  2. Follow a predetermined menu while utilizing expertise to make necessary substitutions.
  3. Order food supplies on a regular schedule, adhering to established protocols.
  4. Prepare monthly reports, including those required for reimbursement under federal school meal programs.
  5. Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations.
  6. Supervise students during meal times and assist in maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED, along with one year of relevant experience. Completion of a food service management training program may substitute for experience. A valid food handler's certificate is required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

A valid state driver's license is necessary if the position involves driving. An annual physical examination may be required, and personal protective equipment must be worn as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Culinary Specialists must be capable of lifting over 50 pounds and maintaining excellent physical condition. Good vision and hearing capabilities are essential.
