Department Overview:
Florida State University Panama City (FSU PC) is dedicated to delivering exceptional Public Safety and Security (PSS) programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Our curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge with practical experience, equipping students with essential skills for careers in law enforcement and public safety. The PSS programs are available in both online and in-person formats, covering a wide range of topics with specialized tracks in Crime Scene Investigation, Law Enforcement Operations, and Law Enforcement Intelligence.

Responsibilities:
This position will involve on-campus teaching at FSU Panama City, with responsibilities for both in-person and online instruction. Key duties include:
  • Designing and delivering courses for undergraduate and graduate Public Safety and Security programs,
  • Upholding high instructional standards,
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to students,
  • Contributing to curriculum development,
  • Implementing innovative teaching methods and overseeing student projects,
  • Engaging in service activities for the Program and Campus.

Opportunities for research engagement may be available, although this is not a mandatory aspect of the role.

Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Public Safety, Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related discipline; alternatively, a terminal professional degree (Ed.D., D.Sc, DCJ, J.D.) from an accredited institution with relevant expertise and coursework will be considered. ABD candidates may be considered, provided the degree is conferred by the start date. Preference will be given to those with a natural science terminal degree and significant experience in crime scene or crime lab settings.

Preferred Qualifications:
We particularly welcome candidates with a minimum of two years of university-level teaching experience, whether in-person or online. Strong preference will be given to those who can teach a mix of undergraduate courses in Public Safety (focusing on Crime Scene Investigation and Law Enforcement Operations) and graduate courses, based on their qualifications and experience.

Additional Information:
This is a non-tenure-track teaching faculty position, offered as a 9- or 12-month full-time role with potential for promotion and multi-year contracts. Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position is set to commence in Fall 2024 or earlier if feasible. Leadership and administrative opportunities may be available based on qualifications. Research engagement is possible but not a requirement for this teaching-focused role.
