Department Overview:
Florida State University Panama City (FSU PC) provides comprehensive Public Safety and Security (PSS) programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels within the FSU College of Applied Studies. These programs integrate theoretical coursework, practical labs, and field experiences to equip students with essential skills for careers in law enforcement and public safety. The PSS programs are available in both online and traditional formats, covering a wide range of topics with specializations in Crime Scene Investigation, Law Enforcement Operations, and Law Enforcement Intelligence.

Responsibilities:
This position is based on-campus and involves both in-person and online teaching responsibilities. Key duties include:
  • Designing and delivering in-person and online courses aligned with qualifications for the Public Safety and Security programs.
  • Upholding high standards of teaching excellence.
  • Providing guidance and mentorship to students.
  • Contributing to curriculum development initiatives.
  • Engaging in innovative teaching practices and supervising student projects.
  • Participating in program and campus service activities.
  • Opportunities for research engagement may be available, though it is not a mandatory aspect of this role.

Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Public Safety, Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related discipline; or a terminal professional degree (Ed.D., D.Sc, DCJ, J.D.) from an accredited institution, along with relevant expertise and graduate coursework for teaching. ABD candidates will be considered, provided the degree is conferred by the position's start date. Preference will be given to those with a natural science terminal degree and significant crime scene or crime lab experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
We particularly seek candidates with a minimum of two years of university-level teaching experience (in-person and/or online). Strong preference will be given to those capable of teaching a mix of undergraduate courses in Public Safety, focusing on Crime Scene Investigation and Law Enforcement Operations, as well as graduate-level courses, based on qualifications and experience.

Additional Information:
This is a non-tenure-track teaching faculty position, advertised as a 9- or 12-month full-time role with potential for promotion and multi-year contracts. Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position offers possibilities for leadership and administrative roles if qualifications permit. Engagement in research is an option, but not a requirement for this teaching-focused position.
