Department Overview: Florida State University Panama City (FSU PC) provides comprehensive Public Safety and Security (PSS) programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as part of the FSU College of Applied Studies. These programs integrate theoretical coursework, practical labs, and field experiences to equip students with essential skills for careers in law enforcement and public safety. The PSS programs are available in both online and in-person formats, covering a wide range of topics within the Public Safety domain, with specializations in Crime Scene Investigation, Law Enforcement Operations, and Law Enforcement Intelligence.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and deliver both in-person and online courses for the undergraduate and graduate Public Safety and Security programs, based on qualifications.
  • Uphold high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Mentor students and support their academic development.
  • Contribute to curriculum enhancement and program development.
  • Engage in innovative teaching practices and supervise student projects.
  • Participate in departmental and campus service activities.
  • Opportunities for research engagement are available, though not mandatory.

Qualifications: Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Public Safety, Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related discipline; or a terminal professional degree (Ed.D., D.Sc, DCJ, J.D.) from an accredited institution, along with relevant expertise and graduate coursework suitable for teaching in our programs. ABD candidates will be considered, provided the degree is conferred by the position's start date. Preference will be given to those with a natural science terminal degree who have significant experience in crime scene and/or crime lab settings.

Preferred Qualifications: We particularly seek candidates with a minimum of two years of university-level teaching experience (in-person and/or online). Strong preference will be given to those capable of teaching a combination of undergraduate courses in Public Safety (focusing on Crime Scene Investigation and Law Enforcement Operations) and graduate courses, based on qualifications and experience.

Additional Information: This is a non-tenure-track teaching faculty position, advertised as a full-time role with potential for promotion and multi-year contracts. The salary will be competitive, and the rank of the appointment will depend on experience and qualifications. Engagement in research is possible, though not a requirement for this teaching faculty role.
