Department Overview:
Florida State University Panama City (FSU PC) provides comprehensive Public Safety and Security (PSS) programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels within the FSU College of Applied Studies. These programs integrate theoretical coursework, practical labs, and field experiences to equip students with essential skills for careers in law enforcement and public safety. FSU PC offers both online and in-person learning opportunities, covering a wide range of topics in the Public Safety domain, with specializations in Crime Scene Investigation, Law Enforcement Operations, and Law Enforcement Intelligence.

Responsibilities:
This role will be based on-campus at FSU Panama City and will involve both in-person and online teaching as well as program service duties. Key responsibilities include:
  • Designing and delivering in-person and online courses aligned with qualifications for the Public Safety and Security programs.
  • Upholding high instructional standards.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to students.
  • Contributing to curriculum development efforts.
  • Engaging in innovative teaching practices and overseeing student projects.
  • Participating in service activities for the Program and Campus.

Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Public Safety, Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related field, or a terminal professional degree (Ed.D., D.Sc, DCJ, J.D.) from an accredited institution, with relevant expertise and coursework for teaching in our programs. ABD candidates will be considered, provided the degree is conferred by the start date. Preference will be given to those with a natural science terminal degree and substantial experience in crime scene or crime lab settings.

Preferred Qualifications:
We are particularly interested in candidates with a minimum of two years of university-level teaching experience (in-person and/or online). Strong preference will be given to those capable of teaching a mix of undergraduate courses in Public Safety, particularly in Crime Scene Investigation and Law Enforcement Operations, as well as graduate-level courses, depending on qualifications.

Additional Information:
This is a non-tenure-track teaching faculty position, advertised as a full-time role with potential for promotion and multi-year contracts. The salary will be competitive, and the rank will depend on experience and qualifications. Opportunities for leadership and administrative roles may be available based on qualifications. Engagement in research is possible but not mandatory for this teaching-focused position.
