Position: Senior Staff Accountant

Reports to: EVP Accounting & Finance

Location: Fort Worth, TX

The Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth is dedicated to supporting all Catholic initiatives and entities within its jurisdiction, encompassing numerous parishes and educational institutions. The Advancement Foundation plays a crucial role in managing and investing the Foundation's assets, which total approximately $80 million, across a diverse portfolio that includes equities, fixed income, commodities, private funds, and private enterprises. Additionally, the Foundation oversees all diocesan development initiatives, such as Capital Campaigns and various endowments.

General Position Summary: The Senior Staff Accountant will report directly to the EVP Finance & Accounting (CFO) and will be responsible for a variety of accounting functions. This role involves preparing financial statements, managing the accounting of pooled investments, and ensuring accurate reporting of gifts received from development efforts. The Senior Staff Accountant will also assist in the strategic planning process to support the growth of Catholic organizations within the Diocese.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with third-party administrators to reconcile investment activities and prepare related journal entries.
  • Conduct analyses to ensure investments are recorded at the correct cost.
  • Ensure accurate calculation and collection of earnings from private investments.
  • Maintain timely and precise records for majority-held private businesses.
  • Complete monthly account reconciliations and bank/investment activity reconciliations.
  • Prepare documentation for external audits.
  • Work closely with the Advancement Gift Processing Team to record cash receipts.
  • Assist in the monthly closing process.
  • Maintain an organized accounting filing system and a system of controls over transactions.
  • Support the CFO as needed and enforce accounting policies to ensure compliance with GAAP and FASB standards.
  • Provide cash flow forecasts related to endowment distributions and collaborate with investment advisors on asset allocation.

Travel Requirements: Some travel may be required, up to 10%, for conferences or events as necessary.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • 2-5 years of experience in investment accounting.
  • Certified Public Accountant designation is preferred.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of the Roman Catholic Church and its financial operations.
  • Familiarity with generally accepted accounting practices and standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in financial software and spreadsheet applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capability to present information to various audiences.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Working Conditions:

  • This position operates in a standard office environment and may involve stress due to evolving business needs and tight deadlines.
  • The standard work schedule is Monday to Friday, with potential evening or weekend meetings or training sessions.
