About the Role

R. J. Corman Railroad Group, LLC is seeking a skilled Mechanical Team Member to join our team in Tupelo, MS. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for conducting inspections and repairs on railcars, locomotives, and other equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough inspections of railcars and equipment to identify areas requiring repair or maintenance.
  • Perform authorized repairs to customer equipment, ensuring all work meets AAR specifications.
  • Lubricate railcars and record maintenance activities for verification and documentation purposes.
  • Accurately record all repairs and maintenance activities, either electronically or in writing.
  • Assist in the preparation of railcars for maintenance, including the use of specialized equipment and tools.
  • Inspect and assist in opening and closing railcar doors.
  • Determine if railcar or securement devices require lubrication and assist in the lubrication process.
  • Perform and document customer preventive maintenance inspections and repairs.
  • Operate various types of mechanical equipment, including small farm tractors, all-terrain vehicles, and panel vans.
  • Maintain accountability and maintenance for all assigned equipment.
  • Perform housekeeping duties as required by site management.
  • Work mandatory overtime hours when required to meet business needs.
Requirements
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and ability to work in a fast-paced rail environment.
  • Valid state driver's license if required to operate company equipment.
  • Preferred: Qualification under 15.1 American Welding Society (AWS) certification.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment, exposed to various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, dust, and noise.
  • Ability to occasionally work in areas with limited lighting.
  • Ability to climb ladders to heights in excess of 16 feet.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally work in areas with less than 12 inches of vertical clearance.
  • Ability to frequently bend, twist, and walk on uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to sustain pressure in awkward positions, including overhead for extended periods.
  • Ability to hear work or safety instructions verbally communicated in a normal speaking voice.
  • Ability to work independently and properly wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
