Patient Access Representative

The Patient Access Representative is a vital role within the Kaiser Permanente Health System environment. This position is responsible for ensuring a complete and accurate patient admission/registration process. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, organizational abilities, and a strong understanding of healthcare regulations and policies.
Key Responsibilities:- Registration: Greets and registers patients for various medical services, pre-registers patients where applicable, and completes comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews to obtain pertinent demographic information and insurance data.
- Revenue Collection: Determines and collects cost-shares, and partial payments for services to be received, and communicates with patients regarding payment policies and procedures.
- Appointing: Schedules and/or cancels appointments based on member needs and regional protocol.
- Regulatory/Organizational Compliance: Completes regulatory or policy required forms, understands and adheres to healthcare regulations and policies, and maintains accurate statistical records of departmental activities.
- General Services: Provides information assistance to patients, visitors, and the public regarding general hospital policies and procedures, and assists patients with specialty phone numbers, facility directions, and office layouts.
- Minimum one (1) year of healthcare financial and minimum one (1) year of office environment customer service experience, or minimum two (2) years of post-high school related education, or combination of education and experience.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
- Medical Terminology Certification and Basic Life Support required.
- Previous experience with EPIC applications preferred.
- Previous hospital or ambulatory clinic registration experience.
- Certification by HFMA or NAHAM preferred.
