Role Overview: The Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) serves as a subject matter expert in cybersecurity, addressing IT and system security challenges that impact mission objectives. The ISSO plays a critical role in maintaining the operational security posture of information systems and collaborates closely with the Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) and Information System Owner (ISO). Additionally, the ISSO provides expert support during security validation site visits and assists in inspections of Agency units engaged in Special Access Program (SAP) missions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Risk Management Framework (RMF) processes in accordance with SAP and SCI regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain the operational security posture for assigned programs or information systems.
  • Conduct vulnerability and risk assessments to facilitate system authorizations.
  • Create, update, and uphold procedures for the secure operation of IT assets.
  • Evaluate and analyze software intended for use on secure IT systems.
  • Perform audits of secure IT assets and investigate classified messaging incidents.
  • Prepare and review essential documentation, including System Security Plans (SSPs), Risk Assessment Reports (RARs), and Security Control Traceability Matrices (SCTMs).
  • Ensure compliance with security policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Manage classification, document control, and classified media processes.
  • Assess information security systems for hardware and software compatibility.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with network and information system security principles.
  • Experience in managing data transfer between information systems at various classification levels.
  • In-depth knowledge of DISA STIGS, SSR, and NSA implementation guides.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate security-related issues to program management.
  • Current security certifications as required under JSIG and AF Intelligence Community Guidance.
  • Understanding of DoDM Volumes and related guidance.
  • Ability to build rapport with military, civilian, and contractor personnel.
  • Willingness to travel within the designated geographic Area of Responsibility (AOR).

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of security support experience in SCI and SAP environments.
  • Recent experience within the last 3 years in a multi-level classified environment.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience (4 years) or 5-7 years of relevant cybersecurity experience.

Certifications:

  • Security+ certification.

Security Clearance:

  • Current Top Secret Clearance with SCI Eligibility.
  • Eligibility for access to Special Access Program Information.
  • Willingness to undergo a Counterintelligence polygraph.

Other Requirements:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Familiarity with SIMS, JADE, JPAS.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment and interact with various personnel.
  • Demonstrated originality, creativity, and initiative with minimal supervision.
