Job Summary

The Curriculum Specialist will play a vital role in ensuring the quality of education standards at Sheltering Arms Early Education and Family Centers. This individual will serve as a role model for teaching techniques, discipline, and professional growth and development, while also acting as a liaison between teaching staff and center management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Routinely observe classrooms using standardized observation forms and checklists to ensure adherence to educational standards.
  • Assist teachers in self-evaluation and goal setting, providing feedback and support to help them achieve their objectives.
  • Serve as a mentor teacher, working in classrooms to provide technical assistance and support when needed.
  • Model and provide coaching for developmentally appropriate practice, helping teachers to create engaging and effective lesson plans.
  • Meet regularly with the management team to share concerns and progress, ensuring that the center is meeting its educational goals.
  • Conduct lead teacher meetings to discuss best practices and provide support to teachers.
  • Assist the Center Director in establishing agendas for staff meetings and conducting new teacher orientation.
  • Assist with classroom teacher performance appraisals, providing feedback and support to help teachers improve their practice.
  • Check lesson plans weekly and provide feedback and approval to ensure that they meet educational standards.
  • Work one-on-one with classroom staff to foster continued professional growth and development, providing support and resources to help them achieve their goals.
  • Keep track of educational materials and make them available to staff as needed, ensuring that the center has the resources it needs to provide high-quality education.
  • Ensure that resource and supply areas are organized and orderly, making it easy for staff to access the materials they need.
  • Check classroom inventories and assist the Center Director in ordering appropriate materials, ensuring that the center has the resources it needs to provide high-quality education.
  • Provide onsite staff training for teachers and parents, assisting with area and agency training as needed.
  • Follow up with teachers who have received training to ensure that they are implementing the skills and knowledge they have gained in the classroom.
  • Train staff on and monitor developmental assessment data entry and use in weekly lesson plans, ensuring that the center is using data to inform its educational practices.
  • Meet regularly with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to share curriculum concerns and assist in the development of curriculum materials necessary for the implementation of the educational program.
  • Participate in staff and parent meetings as needed, providing support and resources to help the center achieve its educational goals.
  • Stay informed of current information on child development by reading and attending conferences and workshops, ensuring that the center is using the latest research and best practices in its educational programs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field and three years of administrative or supervisory experience, or a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field and one year of administrative or supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of five years of classroom experience with children birth to five, and two years of experience supervising adults in a child care and education setting.
  • Experience with adult education and a willingness to work as a team member of a team.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, visually observe and hear children from all areas of the classroom and playground from a distance of at least 70 feet, and sit on the floor and interact with children.
