Literacy Specialist

The Morgan Oliver School for Anti-Racism is seeking a dedicated and experienced Part-Time Literacy Specialist to support the academic success and literacy development of students aged 5-13.
Key Responsibilities- Implement Orton-Gillingham principles and methodologies to teach reading and provide remedial literacy support to students.
- Design and deliver differentiated instruction that meets the diverse learning needs of students across various grade levels.
- Conduct ongoing assessments to identify students' reading strengths, challenges, and individualized goals.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate literacy instruction across the curriculum and support literacy initiatives school-wide.
- Provide professional development and coaching to classroom teachers on effective literacy strategies and interventions.
- Create engaging and interactive lessons that promote literacy development, critical thinking, and comprehension skills.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessments, and instructional strategies used.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports students' social-emotional well-being and academic growth.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, strategies for support, and ways to reinforce literacy skills at home.
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Reading Specialist, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Orton-Gillingham certification or extensive training with demonstrated proficiency in Orton-Gillingham methodologies.
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in literacy instruction and remedial work with elementary and/or middle school students.
- Knowledge of best practices in literacy instruction, including small group and whole class teaching strategies.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and students.
- Commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes academic success and positive behavior.
- Part-time position: 5 days a week, 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM (Tuesday: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM).
- Hourly compensation based on experience and qualifications.
- Tuesdays designated as planning days with teachers and participation in faculty meetings as scheduled.
