Position Overview

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is dedicated to providing essential support and resources to individuals facing challenges in the District of Columbia. Our mission is to empower those in need to overcome poverty and homelessness through a variety of impactful programs and services. We operate over 30 initiatives that focus on enhancing mental and physical well-being, promoting sobriety, facilitating job training, securing living-wage employment, and ensuring access to affordable housing. We address immediate needs through food, clothing, and healthcare, while equipping individuals with the necessary tools to foster hope, dignity, and independence.

Position Summary: We are currently seeking a full-time Service Coordinator for our Single Adult Housing department, specifically within the North Capitol program.

Role Responsibilities: This role involves providing comprehensive case management support to residents, guiding them in navigating daily challenges and fostering personal growth.

The Service Coordinator is required to work evenings as necessary for events, community meetings, and resident appointments, with a minimum of two late evenings per week. Additionally, participation in holiday shifts on a rotating basis may be required.

Qualifications:

Essential: High School Diploma; 5-8 years of experience in social services or working with homeless populations or individuals with substance use disorders, with a strong understanding of mental health issues; familiarity with Motivational Interviewing is advantageous.

Preferred: Valid driver's license.

Required Certifications: CPR and First Aid certification.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:30 pm.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of motivational enhancement interviewing techniques.
  • Ability to adapt actions based on others' responses.
  • Familiarity with principles of customer service and individualized support.
  • Insight into human behavior and performance.
  • Capacity to respect diverse backgrounds and set aside personal biases.
  • Proficiency in the English language, including grammar and composition, with the ability to draft effective goal plans.
  • Skill in educating residents on accessing and utilizing community resources.
  • Competence in conducting thorough resident assessments and documenting progress.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries.

Key Contributions:

  • Case Management: Deliver ongoing case management services with a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction.
  • Community Engagement: Collaborate with the team to develop educational workshops and coordinate resident events.
  • Program Oversight: Participate in the resident intake process and assist in developing orientation programs.

Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Program Manager.

Position Designation: This role is classified as Safety Sensitive, which may require drug testing prior to or during employment. Presence of marijuana in test results may disqualify candidates, even with a medical authorization.
