About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team at Westcare. As a key member of our Department of Substance Use Disorder, you will play a vital role in delivering evidence-based treatment services to individuals struggling with addiction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and interpret screening and assessment tools to identify participant needs and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Conduct group and individual therapy sessions, utilizing evidence-based modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing.
  • Evaluate participant progress and adjust treatment plans as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with participants, their families, and other stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive support network.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless delivery of services and achieve program goals.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of participant interactions, treatment plans, and progress.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, research, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and excellence in service delivery.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in a related field, such as counseling, psychology, or social work.
  • At least one year of experience providing direct substance abuse counseling services to the criminal justice population.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based treatment modalities, including cognitive-behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with participants, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
  • Experience working with electronic health records and other software systems.
  • Knowledge of Maryland Department of Corrections policies and procedures.
