SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Building Operations Supervisor, the Custodian 2 is tasked with ensuring a clean, healthy, and welcoming environment within designated buildings and areas.

The role encompasses various responsibilities, including maintaining cleanliness, operating cleaning machinery, overseeing facility security, and occasionally managing deliveries and responding to requests from staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Custodian 2 is accountable for all cleaning and maintenance functions in their assigned area. Responsibilities include:

  • Adhering to established cleaning standards.
  • Daily cleaning of classrooms, restrooms, hallways, and offices.
  • Dusting and mopping floors as needed.
  • Waxing floors when required.
  • Maintaining cleanliness in the cafeteria and common areas.
  • Cleaning chalkboards, whiteboards, and emptying pencil sharpeners.
  • Sanitizing sinks and drinking fountains.
  • Removing trash and ensuring restrooms are clean and stocked.
  • Vacuuming carpets and entry mats daily.
  • Responding to spills and stains promptly.
  • Using scrubbers and other equipment to maintain floors.

The Custodian 2 also assists in setting up and dismantling furniture and equipment for various events, including community education and sporting activities.
They are responsible for monitoring building security, ensuring all doors are locked and windows are secured.

During the summer, extensive cleaning and maintenance projects are undertaken, including washing windows, shampooing carpets, and stripping and waxing floors.
The Custodian 2 responds to cleaning requests from staff as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Knowledge of custodial practices and cleaning techniques.
  • Familiarity with the operation of cleaning equipment.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and proper lifting techniques.
  • Knowledge of chemical applications and storage.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical requirements for this position include:

  • Regularly sitting, using hands, talking, and hearing.
  • Occasionally standing, walking, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is typically quiet, with potential exposure to communicable diseases and chemicals. Safety precautions are essential, and protective equipment may be required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with at least six months to one year of relevant work experience.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, REGISTRATION
Candidates must obtain the required Special Class Boilers License within 180 days and a 2nd Class Boiler License within one year of obtaining the Special Class Boiler License.
