Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Certified Medical Assistant is accountable for delivering safe and effective nursing care to patients, providing general support, and managing data entry tasks. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the necessary skills to deliver care tailored to the physical, educational, safety, and related needs of diverse patient populations, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric groups.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist patients with mobility, transfers, and dressing, as well as specimen collection and exam preparation.
  • Gather relevant patient history in accordance with organizational protocols.
  • Conduct screenings following provider guidelines.
  • Support physicians and nurse practitioners during various medical procedures.
  • Document observations and actions in patient records accurately.
  • Communicate instructions from healthcare providers to patients and families, considering age-appropriate needs.
  • Prepare instruments and equipment for examinations in line with departmental standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness of exam and procedure rooms between patient visits.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and sterilization of instruments and equipment, adhering to infection control policies.
  • Respond to emergency situations in accordance with training.
  • Manage patient flow by checking schedules and organizing appointments.
  • Handle the sending and receiving of patient medical records.
  • Complete necessary forms and requisitions as required.
  • Oversee routine management of medical records, ensuring accurate filing of reports and documents.

LEADERSHIP AND COLLABORATION:

  • Engage in professional development activities to uphold high-quality healthcare standards.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and other staff to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Adhere to clinic policies and procedures diligently.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Embrace organizational initiatives and demonstrate adaptability during periods of change.
  • Pursue opportunities for formal and independent learning to enhance clinical and administrative skills.
  • Exemplify and promote excellence in customer service.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Clinic Care Manager and other providers regarding operational matters.

SUPERVISORY ROLE:

  • This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Certification in Medical Assisting is mandatory. A minimum of one year of experience in a public-facing role is preferred, along with pleasant telephone etiquette and proficiency in computer usage.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend written documents fluently. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is advantageous.

MATHEMATICAL ABILITY:

  • Capability to work with mathematical concepts, including probability and statistical inference, and apply these concepts to practical situations.

REASONING SKILLS:

  • Adept at identifying problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions. Ability to interpret complex technical instructions and manage multiple variables.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

  • Medical Assistant certification is required. All candidates must undergo a criminal background check and drug screening as part of the pre-employment process.
