JOB SUMMARY:
The Certified Medical Assistant is tasked with delivering safe and effective nursing care to patients while providing essential support and performing data entry tasks. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist patients with mobility, transfers, and dressing, as well as collecting specimens and preparing them for examinations.
- Gather relevant patient history in accordance with organizational protocols.
- Conduct screenings following provider guidelines.
- Support physicians and nurse practitioners during various medical procedures.
- Document observations and actions taken in patient records accurately.
- Communicate instructions from healthcare providers to patients and their families, considering age-appropriate needs.
- Prepare necessary instruments and equipment for examinations in line with departmental protocols.
- Maintain cleanliness of examination and procedure rooms between patient visits.
- Ensure proper cleaning and sterilization of instruments and equipment, adhering to infection control policies.
- Respond to emergency situations within the scope of training.
- Manage patient flow by checking schedules and organizing appointments.
- Handle the sending and receiving of patient medical records.
- Complete necessary forms and requisitions as required.
- Oversee routine management of medical records, ensuring accurate filing of reports and documents.
LEADERSHIP AND COLLABORATION:
- Engage in professional development activities to uphold high-quality healthcare standards.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and other staff to ensure quality service delivery.
- Adhere to clinic policies and procedures consistently.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Demonstrate support for organizational initiatives and exhibit adaptability during periods of change.
- Pursue opportunities for formal and independent learning to enhance clinical and administrative skills.
- Promote and exemplify excellence in customer service.
- Maintain consistent communication with the Clinic Care Manager and other providers regarding operational matters.
SUPERVISORY ROLE:
- This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful performance in this role requires meeting essential duties satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED required. Certification in Medical Assisting is mandatory. A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a public-facing role is preferred, along with proficient telephone etiquette and computer literacy.
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:
- Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend written documents fluently. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is advantageous.
MATHEMATICAL APTITUDE:
- Ability to engage with mathematical concepts, including probability and statistical inference, and apply these concepts to practical scenarios.
REASONING SKILLS:
- Ability to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Capable of interpreting a variety of technical instructions in both mathematical and diagrammatic forms.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
- Medical Assistant certification is required. All candidates must undergo a criminal background check and drug screening as part of the pre-employment process.
