Position Overview

JOB SUMMARY:

The Certified Medical Assistant is tasked with delivering safe and effective nursing care to patients while providing essential support and performing data entry tasks. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of care principles tailored to various age groups, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist patients with mobility, transfers, and dressing, as well as collecting specimens and preparing them for examinations.
  • Gather relevant patient history in accordance with organizational protocols.
  • Conduct screenings following provider guidelines.
  • Support physicians and nurse practitioners during various medical procedures.
  • Document observations and actions taken in patient records accurately.
  • Communicate instructions from healthcare providers to patients and their families, considering age-appropriate needs.
  • Prepare necessary instruments and equipment for examinations in line with departmental protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness of examination and procedure rooms between patient visits.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and sterilization of instruments and equipment, adhering to infection control policies.
  • Respond to emergency situations within the scope of training.
  • Manage patient flow by checking schedules and organizing appointments.
  • Handle the sending and receiving of patient medical records.
  • Complete necessary forms and requisitions as required.
  • Oversee routine management of medical records, ensuring accurate filing of reports and documents.

LEADERSHIP AND COLLABORATION:

  • Engage in professional development activities to uphold high-quality healthcare standards.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and other staff to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Adhere to clinic policies and procedures consistently.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

SUPERVISORY ROLE:

  • This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Certification in Medical Assisting is mandatory. A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a public-facing role is preferred, along with proficient telephone etiquette and computer literacy.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend written documents fluently. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is advantageous.

MATHEMATICAL APTITUDE:

  • Ability to engage with mathematical concepts, including probability and statistical inference, and apply these concepts to practical scenarios.

REASONING SKILLS:

  • Ability to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Capable of interpreting a variety of technical instructions in both mathematical and diagrammatic forms.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

  • Medical Assistant certification is required. All candidates must undergo a criminal background check and drug screening as part of the pre-employment process.
