Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant I plays a crucial role in delivering quality healthcare services to our patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial patient screenings prior to consultations with healthcare providers.
- Perform various diagnostic and treatment procedures, such as audiology and visual acuity screenings, EKGs, and ear irrigation.
- Assist healthcare providers during examinations and minor surgical interventions.
- Administer and document medications and skin tests as directed by medical professionals.
- Provide wound care, including cleaning, dressing changes, and suture removal under supervision.
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
- Manage inventory levels and ensure exam rooms are adequately stocked with necessary supplies.
- Process prescriptions electronically to the pharmacy before patient discharge.
- Update Electronic Medical Records with vital signs, allergies, and medication histories.
- Input insurance details and medical reports into the Electronic Medical Records system.
- Assess patient immunization needs and administer vaccines in accordance with established protocols.
- Monitor vaccine storage conditions and report any discrepancies to supervisors.
- Register immunizations in the local immunization registry.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens in the absence of laboratory technicians.
- Communicate any notable patient behaviors to healthcare providers that may impact treatment.
- Ensure patient comfort and address any concerns with the Clinical Operation Manager.
- Maintain and replace sharps containers as required.
- Conduct daily checks of eye wash stations.
- Adhere to infection control standards as per local, state, and federal regulations.
- Assist in compiling necessary reports as needed.
- Participate in health conferences and departmental meetings.
- Fulfill continuing education requirements for Medical Assistant recertification.
- Clean and sterilize medical instruments and dispose of hazardous materials according to OSHA guidelines.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Essential:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant certification program.
- Experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Current CPR Certification.
- Desirable:
- Experience in a Tribal clinic.
- Experience in a Primary Care setting.
- State Certified Medical Assistant.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Essential:
- Thorough understanding of medical records laws and office protocols.
- Effective communication skills with patients and medical staff.
- Proficient in data entry and Electronic Health Records systems.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Capability to follow both oral and written instructions accurately.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Strong command of the English language, both written and spoken.
- Dependability in attendance and punctuality.
- Professional demeanor and ability to handle constructive feedback.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Desirable:
