Join the Des Moines Airport Authority team as an Airport Technology Manager, responsible for overseeing the airport's technology systems and infrastructure. Key Responsibilities:- Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and support of all business applications and physical infrastructure, including structured cabling, network systems, servers, wireless networks, and telecommunication systems;
- Manage software upgrades, patches, and deployments with minimal disruption to business operations;
- Lead and manage technology projects, from planning and implementation to monitoring and support;
- Assist in the development and support of integration between non-connected Airport systems;
- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery capabilities for critical Airport IT systems;
- Assist in compliance with aviation industry regulations and cybersecurity best practices;
- Implement and maintain cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive systems like passenger data, ticketing systems, and Airport security operations;
- Lead and mentor the IT support team responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining Airport systems;
- Coordinate with external vendors and service providers to support Airport systems per service level agreements and manage technology-related purchases;
- Prepare technical reports and keep work and safety records;
- Ensure the maintenance and upkeep of appropriate technical manuals, drawings, sketches, and diagrams for technical equipment;
- Maintain a technical system repair shop and initiate supply action to obtain the appropriate test equipment, repair parts, or replacements;
- Assist in the formulation and submittal of annual budget requirements as related to installation and maintenance of technical equipment, with oversight and follow-through of budget throughout the fiscal year;
- Ensure that an accurate and current inventory and overview of all technical system installations are maintained, including integration and maintenance records;
- Assign tasks, set performance goals, and provide regular feedback and development opportunities for Airport IT Staff;
- Keep immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including the present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;
- Respond to contractor and citizen questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner;
- Communicate and coordinate regularly with others as appropriate to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with telecommunication providers, private contractors, airport tenants, and the general public;
- Stay current on trends in aviation technology to ensure the Airport remains competitive and efficient;
- Identify opportunities to improve Airport operations through technology, including the use of emerging technologies like IoT (Internet of Things), AI, and automated systems;
- Perform other related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
- Thorough knowledge of electronic, telecommunications, fiber optics, and cable wiring systems;
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical and electronic schematics;
- Ability to understand, install, and maintain a wide range of computer hardware and software systems;
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies;
- Ability to design and implement system interfaces from existing equipment to new;
- Experience with cloud-based applications and SaaS solutions;
- Familiarity with data management and analytics tools;
- Familiarity with NIST security standards;
- Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and nontechnical language;
- Ability to lead and coordinate the work of others;
- Ability to inform and train others on systems and programs required under this classification;
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written policies, procedures, and instructions;
- Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations;
- Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and oral instructions;
- Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Information Systems Security, Network and Communications Management, or Electrical and Computer Engineering; and a minimum of 7 years experience; or
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Electronics and ten years experience with electronics, computer, and telephone systems; or
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to communicate effectively;
- Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to read technical documentation and manipulate small objects in confined areas;
- Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to use hand and power tools and install parts and equipment;
- Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to adjust to confined areas and work around construction sites and on the Airfield.
