Job Summary:

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cattle Department Manager to join our team. As a key member of our ranch operations, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of our cattle department, ensuring the health and well-being of our herd, and implementing sustainable grazing practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate the daily operations of the cattle department, including herd management, nutrition, equipment maintenance, and property upkeep.
  • Develop and implement sales and grazing plans that align with our company's financial objectives and sustainable agricultural practices.
  • Collaborate with external organizations, such as NRCS, universities, and land trusts, to stay up-to-date on best practices and industry developments.
  • Operate and maintain heavy machinery, including dozers, graders, and tractors, with various attachments.
  • Manage horse and cattle herds, ensuring the health and well-being of the animals.
  • Develop and implement short-term, intermediate, and long-term work plans to achieve our company's goals.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of current ranch work experience, with 2+ years in a lead/management position on a progressive ranch.
  • Solid ranch background with verifiable experience.
  • Excellent animal health skills, from diagnosis to treatment of cattle.
  • Practical experience with herd management, nutrition, equipment maintenance, rotational grazing, and management of perennial and annual forages.
  • Organized, self-starter, and attention to detail, with high integrity and good communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor and manners when communicating with others.
  • Basic computer skills, with ability to create reports, budgets, and track expenses.
  • Ability to work with outside organizations and maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with heavy equipment operation, including dozers and graders.
  • Spanish language skills or willingness to learn.
  • Experience or interest in sustainable grazing practices and water management.
