Haptic Hardware Technology Development Engineer

Apple Inc. is in search of a versatile engineer specializing in haptic technology, ideally with a background in Mechatronics, electromechanical systems, or physics. This role focuses on the advancement of cutting-edge haptic solutions and actuators that enhance user interaction across our innovative product lineup.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conceive and develop solutions to complex haptic challenges.
  2. Conduct mechanical, magnetic, and electro-mechanical modeling to assess and refine designs.
  3. Prototype and troubleshoot pioneering concepts.
  4. Design mechanical components and assembly processes.
  5. Establish detailed specifications and engineering criteria.
  6. Collaborate with external vendors to innovate manufacturing and assembly methods, which may involve international travel.
  7. Iteratively validate and characterize designs.
  8. Perform failure analysis and design experiments to identify root causes and implement solutions.
  9. Contribute to the generation of new intellectual property.

Collaborative Environment:

You will engage with cross-functional teams, including design studios and systems engineering, to align on experience objectives. Your role will also encompass:

  1. Ensuring manufacturability in collaboration with Process, Manufacturing Design, and Technical Operations teams.
  2. Regularly communicating across functions and management levels through various formats.
  3. Managing multiple priorities while adhering to schedule constraints.
  4. Leading design reviews and overseeing documentation releases.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Solid foundation in mechanics.
  • Experience in magnetic or motor design.
  • Applied knowledge of electrical circuits, instrumentation, control systems, and basic programming.
  • Proficiency in FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to inform design decisions.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD, 2D drafting, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
  • Strong team player with excellent communication and leadership capabilities.
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in actuator system design.
  • Hands-on product design experience in consumer electronics.
  • Knowledge of mass production and design for manufacturability.
