Die Cutter Operator

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Die Cutter Operator to join our team at Smurfit Westrock. As a Die Cutter Operator, you will be responsible for operating flatbed die cutters to produce high-quality paper and packaging products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate flatbed die cutters to produce paper and packaging products.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on die cutters, including minor repairs and adjustments.
  • Use pre-make-ready tables to prepare dies for cutting.
  • Perform quality checks and approvals on finished products.
  • Prepare loads of material for cutting and remove finished products from the machine.
  • Maintain die inventory and train assistants as needed.

Requirements:

  • Four years of experience operating flatbed die cutters or similar equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of size and location when beginning the nicking process.
  • Ability to recognize common packaging defects.
  • Experience running board stock and paper on flatbed die cutters.
  • Ability to use rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other inspection equipment.
  • Ability to use samples and materials to verify job accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to make spotting sheets and stripping boards.
  • Knowledge of when and what type of rubber or cork to use.
  • Knowledge of how to use benders, bridgers, miters, and cutters for reknifing.
  • Knowledge of adjustment process for tonnage on cutting.
  • Knowledge of when to use underlay or begin spotting.
  • Knowledge of operating the cube/manual tonnage.
  • Knowledge of 1mm counter plates.
  • Knowledge of using register pins for counters.
  • Ability to repair dies by modifying creasing rules and cutting knives.
  • Knowledge of blind make-readies and what it entails.
  • Knowledge of counter plates, matrix, spotting tape, and underlaying.
  • Basic personal computer skills, including experience with email and word processing.
  • Ability to meet minimum requirements on a mechanical test.
  • Ability to maintain good attendance.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to pass color vision and color hue test.
  • Ability to pass basic reading test.
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company policies and procedures.
