Animal Care Specialist

Job Description: As a Large Animal Technician, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive care to animals, including feeding, cleaning, treatment, and preventive medicine. This role plays a vital part in maintaining the daily production and upkeep of animal areas within the facility, ensuring the well-being and health of the animals under your care. The successful candidate will possess excellent animal handling skills and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Provide daily care for large animals, including feeding, watering, and monitoring their well-being. AM/PM daily.
- Complete daily production tasks, which may include injections, bleeding, milking, and other procedures.
- Maintain clean and sanitary living environments for animals by regularly cleaning pens, stalls, and animal housing areas.
- Document findings and job completions in the required logs.
- Safely handle large animals for various procedures, including medical treatments, grooming, and transportation.
- Assist with general maintenance tasks to keep the animal facilities in good repair and ensure a safe environment.
- Provide mental and physical stimulation for animals through enrichment activities and environmental improvements.
- Adhere to all relevant animal welfare regulations, industry standards, and facility protocols.
- Animal Science degree or 4 or more years of animal-related experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (English).
- Windows-based computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Good organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A valid driver's license in good standing for a minimum of 3 years.
- Ability to work rotating holidays and weekends.
- Team player with a strong work ethic.
- The ability to lift or move up to 50lbs or more on a regular basis.
- This position is physically demanding, requiring standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching at various times throughout the day.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extremes in temperature and occasionally farm equipment.
- The noise level in the work environment and job sites can vary from minimal to loud.
