Crisis Certified Peer Specialist

The Crisis Certified Peer Specialist (CCPS) provides vital support to individuals struggling with behavioral health and/or substance use conditions. As a peer specialist, you will self-identify as a present or former client of mental health or substance use services, leveraging your personal experience to facilitate recovery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist clients in articulating personal recovery goals and developing individual wellness and recovery plans.
  • Support clients in pursuing employment and overcoming job-related anxiety through guided job searches, application reviews, and interview preparation.
  • Teach clients problem-solving and effective coping techniques, self-help strategies, and how to identify and combat negative self-talk.
  • Aide clients in obtaining decent, affordable housing and providing advocacy for recovery-based services.
  • Assist clients in accessing community resources and groups that meet their individual recovery needs.
  • Model self-advocacy to empower clients in developing empowerment skills and methods to combat stigma.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Care Coordinator Lead to develop treatment/recovery plans based on client-identified goals.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation of client interactions and progress.
  • May require driving and/or transporting clients to medical appointments, job sites, and other community resources.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certified Peer Specialist preferred.
  • Ability to facilitate recovery using established standardized mental health processes and personal knowledge of recovery process.
  • Skilled in teaching basic problem-solving strategies to support individual clients in self-directed recovery.
  • Knowledge of the signs and symptoms of mental illness and ability to assist clients in addressing symptoms.
  • Sufficient understanding of community resources necessary for independent living and recovery.
  • One year of clinical experience preferred, but not required.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • A valid MO class E or state equivalent driver's license required.
  • Willingness to meet regulatory requirements of partners, including vaccinations and background checks.
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training required and can be completed upon hire.
Work Environment:

This is a hybrid position with significant time spent in the field throughout the St. Louis area, at various settings, including hospitals, clinics, and/or community centers. Requires riding in/driving a car for extended periods of time.
