Position Overview:
SUNY Ulster County Community College is seeking applications for a Senior Accounting Clerk. This role entails overseeing intricate financial clerical responsibilities that require independent judgment and the management of complex bookkeeping tasks within a significant department. The position operates under the general oversight of a higher-level employee, allowing considerable discretion in executing assignments. Supervision is typically provided over subordinate staff.

Key Responsibilities:
The following activities represent typical responsibilities associated with this role. Incumbents may engage in some or all of the tasks listed below, along with other related duties:
  • Maintains detailed activity control records, organizes workloads, and synchronizes tasks with other departments;
  • Plans, assigns, and evaluates the preparation and upkeep of diverse financial records and reports, providing guidance to employees on specialized aspects of the work;
  • Compiles, prepares, and analyzes a range of complex financial and statistical documents;
  • Modifies, develops, and enforces accounting methods and procedures;
  • Handles correspondence related to financial matters;
  • Oversees the auditing of various accounts, claims, and records, along with the creation of associated reports;
  • Utilizes various office equipment, including calculators and electronic computing systems;
  • May supervise the reconciliation of revenue with bank statements;
  • May assist in drafting the annual operating budget and ensure the implementation of necessary financial controls;
  • May prepare and compile all relevant information required for bond sales.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Attributes
Comprehensive understanding of methods for maintaining and verifying financial accounts and records; thorough knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment; proficiency in business arithmetic and English; solid understanding of double-entry bookkeeping; ability to perform arithmetic calculations swiftly and accurately; capability to plan and oversee the work of others; ability to comprehend and execute oral and written instructions; ability to write clearly; ability to collaborate effectively with others; clerical aptitude; mental alertness; sound judgment; attention to detail; integrity; tact and courtesy; physical condition suitable for the demands of the role.
Minimum Qualifications:
Either:
  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's or higher degree in Accounting or a related field, along with one year of full-time paid experience in financial account maintenance; OR
  2. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three years of full-time paid experience in financial account maintenance.
And
  • Commitment to the objectives of community colleges in providing quality programs and services for a diverse student population, including those with disabilities; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with varied abilities and interests.
Hourly Rate: $25.44 per hour.
