JOB DESCRIPTION:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement state regulations and guidelines pertaining to on-site wastewater management systems.
  • Perform site assessments and grant necessary permits.
  • Oversee the monitoring of existing systems and conduct inspections of new installations.
  • Keep accurate records and documentation of all activities.
  • Execute additional related tasks as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Solid understanding of environmental health regulations and public health principles.
  • Familiarity with microbiology, biology, chemistry, soil science, and engineering practices.
  • General awareness of community resources and services.
  • In-depth knowledge of on-site wastewater treatment solutions and safeguarding water supplies.
  • Capability to evaluate technical regulations and documentation.
  • Competence in exercising sound judgment and providing public education on health issues.
  • Proficiency in delivering training programs related to environmental health.
  • Ability to independently plan and organize work tasks.

Education and Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in the role of Environmental Health Specialist.

Certifications and Licenses: Must possess a Registered Environmental Health Specialist certification in North Carolina, a valid driver's license, and current state authorization for on-site wastewater management.

Preferred Qualifications: Registered Environmental Health Specialist with state certifications in wells and pools, skills in ArcGIS, bilingual abilities (Spanish), and registration as a Licensed Soil Scientist.
