Position Overview:

We are currently in search of a Senior Design Engineer specializing in Lighting Systems. The successful applicant will oversee the engineering, design, development, timing, prototyping, and launch of lighting components and systems.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled engineer and organizer, demonstrating the ability to adapt quickly and work efficiently in a dynamic, fast-paced setting. A proactive attitude and a strong work ethic are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct engineering studies for concepts and layouts during the early development phases and internal projects.
  • Design components and products to meet system targets regarding craftsmanship, functionality, cost, efficiency, and weight.
  • Oversee parts from initial design through to prototyping and serial production.
  • Generate and maintain engineering documentation, including Technical Specifications (TES), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and Design Verification Plans (DVP).
  • Coordinate testing and validation activities with tier 1 suppliers and internal vehicle validation teams.
  • Manage the Engineering Bill of Materials (EBOM).
  • Track supplier activities to ensure successful product development and validation through to series production.
  • Create CAD models that meet internal deliverables and collaborate with suppliers during DFM, Moldflow, and tooling design approvals.
  • Verify and approve final designs prior to release.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and departments regarding data transfer.
  • Adhere to project timelines and coordinate necessary activities to meet milestones.
  • Support vehicle prototype build activities and optimize products based on testing feedback.
  • Develop Engineering Statements of Work for lighting devices.
  • Engage in an iterative process with the design/studio team to achieve an optimal balance of function, form, and cost.
  • Formulate assembly strategies that guide, locate, and mount components to meet build objectives.
  • Interpret CAE simulations to integrate necessary product optimizations.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience in the automotive industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in design and development engineering for lighting devices with a focus on efficiency.
  • Familiarity with plastics, composites, and basic sheet metal.
  • Knowledge of injection molding and plastic bonding processes.
  • Proficient in CATIA V5 and V6 (NX, Unigraphics acceptable).
  • Experience with Design Verification Plans & Reports (DVP&R), DFMEA, and other technical documentation.
  • Understanding of GD&T fundamentals.
  • Willingness to travel to suppliers and assembly plants during launches.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with tooling, electronics production, and testing is advantageous.
  • Autonomous in CAD development, Part Design, and Generative Shape Design.
  • Strong grasp of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to manage complex projects under tight deadlines and budget constraints.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with in-plant launches of lighting devices.
  • Background in automotive OEM or Tier 1 environments is a plus.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
