Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current Pennsylvania Practical Nurse License or eligibility to take the Practical Nurse Licensure Examination.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Capable of entering health data for residents into electronic medical records systems.

Role Overview:
  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care and clinical responsibilities as per licensure and training.
  • Maintain regular attendance and fulfill duties throughout the entire shift.
  • Availability for overtime as needed by management.
  • Navigate stairways in housing units to provide nursing support when required.
  • Engage with inmate clients to address health care-related conflicts and supervise their activities within the medical department.
  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.
  • Assist in lifting and repositioning inmates, as well as transferring and ambulating them.
  • Utilize physical strength to maneuver inmates in wheelchairs and transport carts.
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity for direct patient care tasks.
  • Possess corrected vision for assessing inmates and ensuring personal safety.
  • Maintain adequate hearing to communicate effectively and utilize medical equipment such as stethoscopes.

Responsibilities:
Implement nursing care plans as directed by the Registered Nurse or Physician, which includes monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and performing treatments. Reinforce educational efforts to ensure quality service delivery.

Conduct assessments of inmates' needs through careful observation and report any physical or emotional changes.

Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by the physician, documenting all treatments accurately.

Execute therapeutic interventions as ordered for the inmate population.

Adhere strictly to infection control protocols.

Assist inmates with daily living activities and personal hygiene to meet essential care requirements.

Manage inventory of supplies and equipment, ensuring treatment areas are adequately stocked.

Support the preparation of medical incident reports for injuries or sudden health issues.

Utilize sterilization methods for supplies and instruments, ensuring compliance with health standards.

Conduct visual acuity tests and other examinations as required.

Respond to emergencies and provide first aid and CPR when necessary.

Enhance professional skills through participation in mandatory training and meetings.
