Role Summary

The primary responsibility of the Senior Mortgage Loan Officer is to cultivate relationships through proactive business development with real estate professionals, builders, and influential networks to achieve a fully self-sourced origination of residential first mortgage and equity loans. The officer ensures that members receive outstanding service and a seamless mortgage loan origination experience, adhering to VyStar's lending policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain active relationships with real estate agents, builders, and centers of influence to support a self-sourced production model.
  • Solicit and originate residential mortgage loans from diverse sources, ensuring compliance and high-quality service.
  • Conduct interviews with applicants to gather information regarding their financial needs and assess credit risk.
  • Oversee loan programs, negotiate terms, and process quality applications.
  • Input necessary data into the loan origination software for complete applications.
  • Analyze member information to recommend suitable mortgage options that ensure compliance and satisfaction.
  • Provide guidance to members regarding mortgage loan programs and assist in gathering additional information for underwriting.
  • Communicate with processing teams to keep members informed about their loan status.
  • Serve as the primary contact for members throughout the loan process, documenting all communications.
  • Support mortgage processors and closers in obtaining necessary documentation for a smooth loan process.
  • Participate in loan closings with members.
  • Review production reports to ensure performance goals are met.
  • Cross-sell additional credit union services.
  • Understand and work towards the goals of the mortgage department and the credit union.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance service quality and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Real Estate Lending to achieve exceptional member service.
  • Manage loan pipelines effectively, prioritizing submissions and documentation.
  • Adhere to service level agreements in accordance with mortgage sales standards.
  • Engage in ongoing education to stay updated on industry regulations and best practices.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the mortgage industry, specifically in direct member contact roles.
  • Proven track record of successful production and customer engagement.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Familiarity with various loan types, including conventional, VA, FHA, and equity financing.
  • Knowledge of private mortgage insurance and relevant regulations.
  • Ability to effectively utilize loan origination systems and related technology.
Education Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred, but significant experience in mortgage lending may substitute.
  • Must meet all requirements as a registered mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry.
  • Continuing education through local conferences and workshops is encouraged to remain informed about industry changes.
