POSITION SUCCESS FACTORS:

Factor #1 – Purchasing Process & Compliance

In the initial months, familiarize yourself with the current procurement system, including existing procedures, processes, and the ERP system.

  • Collaborate with the Purchasing Manager to establish Goals and Objectives for the year.
  • Complete all required training for the position.
  • Gain an understanding of commodities and identify key suppliers and part relationships.
  • Learn about the Strategic Supply Chain and its function within Qualitel.
  • Understand standard costing and cost accounting principles relevant to Qualitel.

Factor #2 – Supplier Management and Continual Improvement

Within six months, take full responsibility for assigned commodities and daily tasks outlined in Factor 1. This includes total ownership of the commodity, which encompasses quoting and supplier management (On-Time Delivery, Quality, Cost Reduction).

  • Begin developing a strategic approach to commodities and make informed decisions on sourcing, supplier rationalization, and cost improvements.
  • Establish supplier report cards and metrics, including On-Time Delivery (OTD), Quality, and Feedback.
  • Maintain relationships with commodity suppliers.
  • Ensure timely resolution of Quality Issues and Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPAs).
  • Lead and manage all supplier relationships for assigned commodities.

Factor #3 – System and Continual Improvement

Within twelve months, be accountable for providing analysis related to OTD, Quality, and cost improvements for assigned commodities. Collaborate with management to develop commodity strategies and supplier rationalization based on market intelligence and supplier health.

  • Participate in and lead strategic planning and improvements.
  • Contribute to internal and external cooperation between departments and suppliers.
  • Propose systems and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure personal and departmental goals and objectives are met.
  • Develop and execute stocking agreements with the supply base.
  • Assist in drafting Long Term Agreements with suppliers.
  • Conduct complex market and cost analysis for assigned commodities.
  • Create a market and strategic plan for the Qualitel Purchasing Department.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Strategic Sourcing Leader is responsible for understanding and executing a strategic vision for their assigned commodities. This role involves managing supplier relationships and acting as the business's voice to the supplier. The Strategic Sourcing Leader must meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and departmental expectations regarding cost and quality for their assigned commodities. Additionally, they are responsible for executing all cost-saving initiatives related to purchased parts.

Expectations:

  • Possess a holistic understanding of the business and execute a strategic vision for managed commodities.
  • Understand internal and external factors affecting the supply chain.
  • Develop a Commodity Strategy report for assigned commodities.
  • Have knowledge of cost accounting and manufacturing principles.
  • Be a Subject Matter Expert on assigned commodities.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Understand Lean principles.
  • Exhibit strong supplier management skills.
  • Negotiate and draft contracts with suppliers.
  • Apply various negotiation strategies effectively.
  • Understand multiple inventory stocking strategies.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, engineering, and management staff.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic mathematical operations and apply mathematical concepts to dimensional inspection tasks.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
