Job Summary

This leadership position oversees the efficient and effective management of the pharmacy department, ensuring compliance with hospital and departmental policies, as well as federal and state regulations. The Director of Pharmacy Operations fosters the development of pharmaceutical care through process improvement and collaboration with medical staff and nursing services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Medication Management: Ensure safe, cost-effective, and appropriate medication therapies for patients, adhering to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Policy Development: Develop and enforce policies and procedures that promote cost-effective, appropriate, and safe medication use, including the development and maintenance of a medical staff-approved formulary.
  • Supervision and Leadership: Supervise medication storage and preparation areas, provide educational needs for healthcare professionals, patients, and their families, and ensure maintenance of an adequate medication supply.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict control and accountability for medications dispensed to patients or distributed to floor stock, assure adequate control and documentation of controlled substances, and maintain applicable CE records and licensure.
  • Department Operations: Contribute to the quality and effective operation of the department, supervise all pharmacy personnel, and develop job descriptions and performance standards.
  • Financial Management: Prepare budget annually, review monthly financial statistics, and plan expenditures within budget guidelines.
  • Reporting and Compliance: Ensure preparation and submission of patient charges and financial reports to finance in accordance with policy, administer reports, documents, payroll records, statistical surveys, and other required data.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a strategic plan for the pharmacy that supports the mission and goals of Christus Health, and integrate the department into the organization's primary functions.
Requirements
  • Education/Skills: Doctorate degree in pharmacy or related field.
  • Experience: 8+ years of technical experience and 7+ years of leadership/management experience.
  • Licenses/Certifications: RPH license in the state of employment.
