Job Description

The Recreation Assistant plays a vital role in our organization by assisting program leads at various recreation programs. This includes direct care responsibilities, supervising participants, and providing personal care assistance as needed.

As a Recreation Assistant, you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting program leads in running recreation programs, including social outings, arts and crafts, sports, fitness, dance, swimming, bowling, and cooking.
  • Supervising participants, including small groups and individuals, and providing 1:1 ratio if necessary.
  • Running programs in conjunction with existing community resources, such as the YMCA, school systems, churches, city recreation departments, and Special Olympic programs.
  • Providing direct support and contact with individuals and caretakers.
  • Taking leadership responsibility in emergency situations, including calling emergency services or contacts and providing transportation.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • At least one year of experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities or experience in a recreation or sports activity leadership position.
  • A passion and dedication to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record.
  • The ability to pass company background and reference checks.
