Compensation Details
The Recreation Assistant position offers a competitive hourly wage of $17 per hour, with opportunities for pay increases after one year, pending performance evaluations. Part-time employees can expect to work between 2-10 hours per week, with a flexible schedule that may include late afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
Job Description
As a Recreation Assistant at Communitas, you will play a vital role in assisting the program lead in running various recreation programs, including social outings, arts and crafts, sports, fitness, dance, swimming, bowling, and cooking. You will be responsible for supervising participants, providing direct support and contact with individuals and their caretakers, and taking leadership responsibility in emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist program lead staff in planning and executing recreation programs that promote socialization, skill-building, and enjoyment among participants.
- Supervise participants, providing individualized support and ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Establish and maintain relationships with community resources, such as the YMCA, schools, churches, and city recreation departments, to enhance program offerings and opportunities.
- Provide personal care and assistance to individuals, consistent with their individual needs and goals.
- In the event of an emergency, take charge and ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A minimum of one year of experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities or working in a recreation or sports activity leadership position.
- A passion for supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and a commitment to their growth and development.
- A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record are essential.
- Candidates must pass company background and reference checks.
