Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Program Manager, the Outreach Specialist will be responsible for (1) educating and reaching out to farm workers in underserved regions about the USDA Farm and Food Workers Relief (FFWR) Grant Program, and (2) facilitating the intake application process for disaster-relief payment distribution. A comprehensive understanding of the agricultural labor force is essential for this role. Direct communication with farm workers and collaboration with the UFW Organizing Team will be integral to the position. This role is designed to be remote.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in outreach initiatives and community events.
  • Assist farm workers in completing applications for the USDA FFWR Grant Program.
  • Utilize UFW's peer-to-peer texting platform effectively during outreach activities.
  • Document participation of workers in outreach efforts.
  • Create compelling bilingual content for social media; foster community engagement through digital platforms that support UFW's organizing objectives.
  • Contribute to the development of impactful content for digital and texting communications.
  • Provide weekly reports on outreach activities and the effectiveness of digital media campaigns.
  • Perform general administrative support tasks as required.
  • Undertake additional project-related tasks as assigned.

Supervisory Role

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Certificates and Licenses:

A valid Class 'C' Driver's license is required.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this role require the employee to regularly sit, use hands for handling or feeling, reach with hands and arms, and communicate verbally. Occasionally, the employee may need to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:

The work environment is typically moderate in noise level.

Compensation:

Hourly wage ranges from $20 to $25, part-time, approximately 10 hours per week.
