Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Program Manager, the Outreach Specialist will be responsible for (1) educating and reaching out to farm workers in underserved areas about the USDA Farm and Food Workers Relief (FFWR) Grant Program, and (2) facilitating the intake application process for disaster-relief payment distribution. A comprehensive understanding of the agricultural labor workforce is essential for this role. Direct communication with farm workers and collaboration with the UFW Organizing Team are vital components of this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in outreach initiatives and community events.
  • Assist farm workers in completing applications for the USDA FFWR Grant Program.
  • Utilize UFW's peer-to-peer texting platform effectively during outreach efforts.
  • Document participation of workers in outreach activities.
  • Create engaging bilingual content for social media; foster community engagement through digital platforms that support UFW's organizing objectives.
  • Contribute to the development of compelling content for digital and texting communications.
  • Provide weekly reports on outreach outcomes and the effectiveness of digital media campaigns.
  • Perform general office support tasks as required.
  • Undertake additional project-related tasks as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not include supervisory duties.

Certificates and Licenses:

A valid Class "C" Driver's license is required.

Physical Demands:

The physical requirements for this role include regular sitting, using hands for handling tasks, reaching with arms, and effective communication. Occasional standing, walking, and lifting of up to 25 pounds may be necessary.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret business documents, write reports, and effectively present information to various audiences. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is essential.

Mathematical Skills:

Competence in basic calculations and accounting principles is necessary.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions in multiple formats.

Work Environment:

The work environment is typically moderate in noise level.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement:

To minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission, all employees must be vaccinated within a specified timeframe from the date of hire, with options for medical or religious exemptions.

Compensation:

Hourly wage ranges from $20 to $25, with part-time hours averaging approximately 10 hours per week.

This part-time position does not include benefits.
