The firm is dedicated to providing debt capital for various purposes, including acquisitions, refinancings, ownership transitions, and growth capital to businesses within the U.S. lower middle market. With investment offices located in major cities and international investor relations offices, Deerpath Capital manages approximately $7.5 billion in assets.
Role Summary
This position is accountable for distribution across the United States, with a particular emphasis on the insurance investor sector. We are in search of a seasoned professional who possesses established relationships with insurance companies, a proven history of client management and capital raising in private markets, and the capability to effectively convey an investment strategy to potential investors with the aim of capital acquisition. The successful candidate will report to the Head of North America, Investor Partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Investor Development:
- Establish and cultivate relationships with both existing and potential insurance company investors, while also engaging with pensions, endowments, family offices, foundations, fund of funds, asset managers, and consultants.
- Comprehend the various segments within the insurance industry and the investment requirements of each segment.
- Utilize existing connections that align with the firm’s strategy.
- Generate and manage a pipeline of prospective investors.
- Coordinate introductory and follow-up communications with potential investors.
- Oversee and manage follow-up activities with prospective investors.
Marketing and Outreach:
- Acquire a comprehensive understanding of the firm’s history, culture, investment strategy, products, and client base to effectively communicate with prospective investors.
- Analyze the competitive landscape and articulate this knowledge to potential investors.
- Advocate for the firm by clearly presenting its market position and value proposition.
- Lead initial presentations to prospective investors, either independently or alongside senior team members.
Relationship Management:
- Oversee a list of outstanding investor inquiries, due diligence requests, and RFPs, ensuring timely responses in collaboration with the investor relations team.
- Track the progress of prospective investors using a Client Relationship Management (CRM) system.
- Coordinate and assist in managing global placement agent activities.
Performance and Competencies
Established Investor Relationships:
- Possess a solid reputation within the institutional investor and consultant communities.
- Demonstrate a strong track record in advising institutional investors and raising capital from high-quality sources.
- Experience in developing and managing institutional relationships.
- Understand the private equity and credit fundraising processes and investor service expectations.
Market and Product Acumen:
- Have sufficient knowledge of credit markets and strategies.
- Be prepared to quickly become conversant in the firm’s investment strategy.
Communication and Relationship Skills:
- Effectively articulate and promote investment strategies while engaging in solution-oriented discussions.
- Exhibit strong emotional intelligence and the ability to communicate persuasively.
- Possess well-developed presentation skills and interpersonal communication abilities.
Entrepreneurial Mindset:
- Demonstrate creativity in developing innovative ideas to enhance the investor pipeline.
- Be self-motivated and proactive, capable of working independently.
Academic and Professional Qualifications:
- Hold an undergraduate degree from a reputable institution.
- Have a minimum of 6 years of experience in financial services or consulting in an outward-facing role.
- Possess at least 4 years of experience in initiating and developing institutional investor relationships, preferably in private credit or private equity.
