Job Overview

Loews Kansas City Hotel is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Banquets to lead our banquet department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all banquet food service functions, including labor management, equipment inventory control, and preparation of banquet checks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain optimal staffing levels to ensure exceptional service and efficiency
  • Develop and approve schedules, forecasts, and budgets for the banquet department
  • Establish and administer departmental guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Oversee supervisory activities, including set-up, delivery of service, and quality of food presented
  • Approve departmental storeroom and purchase requisitions to ensure operational costs are within budget
  • Review and maintain daily payroll reports and ensure labor costs conform to established guidelines
  • Maintain banquet server gratuity information and prepare transmittals for submission to payroll
  • Interview, select, train, appraise, coach, counsel, and discipline departmental employees according to Loews Hotels standards
  • Evaluate individual employee performance, determine areas for improvement, and establish goals and training needs
  • Coach and counsel personnel as needed to ensure superior levels of performance
  • Establish par levels for banquet equipment and supply inventories to support forecasted activities
  • Oversee security and maintenance of all banquet equipment and supplies
  • Attend BEO and hotel meetings to stay informed about in-house activities and special promotions
  • Communicate daily with the Banquet Chef and Captain to obtain and provide current status of daily activities and information regarding upcoming events
  • Verify banquet cover count, prepare and present banquet checks for guest payment and signature, and forward signed checks and associated documentation to accounting
  • Respond to guest complaints and comments in a positive and professional manner
  • Conduct departmental meetings to communicate effectively with all banquet department personnel and ensure they are kept current on pertinent hotel information and activities
  • Evaluate changes in guest needs, the hotel's guest mix, and industry competitive set to recommend appropriate product and operational changes
Requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of banquet food service operations and administration
  • Five to seven years of progressive management experience in large upscale hotel or convention center banquet operations
  • Certifications such as Certified Food Manager and TIPS or equivalent responsible vendor
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective operating and control processes to attain maximum operating efficiency and guest satisfaction
  • Effective management, leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays
