Job Summary

Facilitate educational experiences in language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, health, art, music, and physical education for Transitional Kindergarten students. E
Assess student needs and develop tailored lesson plans for individualized, small group, and large group instruction to meet diverse student requirements. E
Engage in collaborative grade/department meetings to analyze and utilize assessment data to enhance student performance. E
Support the social-emotional development of Transitional Kindergarten students. E
Maintain a classroom environment that fosters good habits, self-control, and positive attitudes towards peers. E
Create a supportive atmosphere that promotes emotional stability and encourages a positive self-image through effective techniques with young learners. E
Design and sustain an engaging, stimulating, and comfortable learning environment that inspires children to learn. E
Establish a classroom culture that values fairness, diversity, and respect for students and families. E
Deliberately connect thoughtful curriculum choices with appropriate instructional strategies and activities that align with both educational standards and the developmental needs of students. E
Evaluate students' academic and social progress, maintain accurate records, prepare progress reports, and communicate effectively with parents regarding their child's development. E
Consult with other professionals regarding student attendance, behavior, health, or learning challenges. E
Job Description / Essential Elements:
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Special Day Class teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the curriculum as outlined in each student's Individual Educational Plan.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Assessment
1. Collaborate with staff to conduct assessments for annual and tri-annual reviews by measuring academic achievement and observing social development.
2. Participate in a multidisciplinary team to identify needs and establish specific goals and objectives for each student's individual educational plans.
B. Educational Planning
1. Provide targeted instruction to address specific disabilities.
2. Serve as a liaison to facilitate successful integration into mainstream classes when appropriate.
3. Adapt each student's curriculum through ongoing informal evaluations.
C. Consultation
1. Communicate with staff and parents regarding student needs.
2. Utilize resources within and outside the school district to support student progress in both educational and social contexts.
D. Professional Growth
1. Stay informed about current regulations related to Special Education.
2. Pursue independent professional development through journals, workshops, and classes offered by the district.
E. Other Duties
1. Maintain records and reports as required by federal, state, and district regulations.
2. Ensure confidentiality of all written and verbal information.
3. Participate in school-wide initiatives and fulfill responsibilities as a staff member.
4. Perform other duties as assigned.
