WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role offers flexibility to work in-office or in a hybrid model. Our Michigan office, established in 2018, has expanded to 40 employees and is conveniently located in a vibrant area with ample parking and nearby amenities.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

As a key member of our Transportation Engineering Team, the Traffic Lead will oversee transportation engineering analysis and design for various projects. This position demands a strong foundation in traffic engineering to develop engineering plans, calculations, reports, technical specifications, proposals, and construction estimates. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in traffic impact studies, capacity analysis, parking studies, traffic simulation modeling, crash analysis, and safety evaluations.

Responsibilities include:
  • Creating traffic design and construction plans, including signage, pavement markings, signalization, lighting, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
  • Leading efforts to establish and expand a traffic department within the Detroit office.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to prepare scopes and fees for traffic engineering tasks.
  • Engaging in proposal writing and business development initiatives.

As a Traffic Engineer/Project Manager at Michael Baker, you will encounter a diverse range of clients and projects, ensuring that each day presents new challenges. Your role will primarily involve managing traffic engineering tasks across various surface transportation design projects, from traffic forecasting to the design of traffic control devices and systems.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a related discipline.
  • Over 10 years of progressive experience in traffic engineering design and operations.
  • Possession of a Michigan PE license, with the capability to obtain licensure in other states; P.T.O.E. certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with MDOT standards and traffic engineering design practices.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and traffic analysis software such as HCS, Vissim, and Synchro/SimTraffic, as well as CAD software (MicroStation).
